About Me
- Name: Timotheos
- Location: Berkeley, California, United States
I am a PhD student at Berkeley in ancient history. I was raised in Los Angeles, was an anarcho-leftist punk rocker in the mid- 1980s, then at 21 moved to Northern California where I have lived since. I began to question many of my more radical leftist beliefs after working in a grocery store staffed almost entirely by San Francisco anarchist counterculture types where I was forced to confront the living embodiments of many of my most firmly held ideas; I became very wary of all things "countercultural" there. I vote Democrat. My father is a composer and my mother a retired nurse. I am married with no children yet. Besides Greek and Roman history, religion, art, and literature, I have cultivated a long interest in modern intellectual history, especially debates about canonicity in American academia, the "culture wars," and identity politics, as well as various types of music and film noir. I run 3 sites; ethnicityandfeminism attempts to soberly critique certain trends in left thought (see "what this site is about") and Prokatalambano is a miscellany.
